Sen. Maj. Leader Michael Roberson's response to State of the State address

Posted: Updated:

Senate Majority Leader Michael Roberson (R-Henderson) today praised the bold reform agenda Governor Sandoval outlined in his State of the State address.

“Governor Sandoval has proposed an ambitious education reform agenda to ensure that every Nevada child has access to a high-quality education,” Roberson said. “I share Governor Sandoval's desire to improve outcomes for Nevada students and stand ready to take swift action to fulfill the promise of educational opportunity in the Silver State.”

A critical piece of Governor Sandoval's State of the State and education reform plan was the need to broaden our tax structure and bolster revenue for Nevada's education system. Majority Leader Roberson expressed his support for Governor Sandoval's leadership on this issue.

“For far too long, our ‘leaders' have elected to accept the status quo rather than face head-on the difficult issues facing our state. That changed today. Governor Sandoval is providing the courageous leadership that so many Nevadans have longed for. I am proud to join him in this effort to move Nevada forward.”

“For those who are inclined to find fault with any of the thoughtful proposals laid out by Governor Sandoval, I would encourage those critics to be prepared to come to the table with their own solutions,” Roberson said. “As Chairman of the Senate Revenue Committee, I commit to holding full and open hearings to examine all viable alternatives, and I will receive input and encourage spirited debate from key stakeholders, members of the Senate and the public at large in order to develop revenue reform. Doing nothing is no longer a viable option.
