LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

One person was killed and another was wounded in a shootout between a security guard and another man along the Las Vegas Strip early Monday morning.

The shooting happened about 1:45 a.m. on a sidewalk at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Harmon Avenue.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, a security guard for the Regional Transportation Commission was working nearby when a person got off a bus during a disturbance. The passenger then pulled out a gun and shot the security guard several times. The security guard fired back, killing the passenger.

The security guard was taken to University Medical Center for treatment.

The man who was shot and killed on Monday afternoon was identified by the Clark County Coroner's Office as 35-year-old Christopher Gene Boudinot, of Las Vegas.

RTC General Manager Tina Quigley said she is not able to comment about the shooting while its under investigation.

"The safety and security of our passengers and operators remains our utmost priority," Quigley said in a statement.

Allied Barton, the company that is contracted to provided security for RTC, said in a statement that the guard was licensed in the state of Nevada.

"Security officers face life-threatening situations every day as they strive to maintain safe and secure environments," company spokeswoman Samantha Thomas said in a statement.

According to RTC spokeswoman Angela Castro, Allied Barton provides extensive, state-certified training to its guards, including use-of-force protocols.

This was the first fatal shooting in the history of the RTC, Castro said.

Northbound lanes of Las Vegas Boulevard were closed while police investigated the shooting. Those lanes reopened about 7:30 a.m.
