NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -

North Las Vegas police said a driver fled the scene of a crash involving a pedestrian who later died at the hospital.

According to NLV police, the incident happened at about 5:22 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, near the area of Las Vegas Boulevard North and East Carey Avenue.

Officers found a 63-year-old man lying on the roadway with critical injuries. Police said the man was rushed to University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Citing a preliminary investigation, police said the man appeared to have been crossing Las Vegas Boulevard outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a southbound vehicle. The vehicle did not stop after the crash, police said.

Police identified a silver, 1999 to 2003 Mitsubishi Galant as a possible suspect vehicle in the incident. They noted the passenger-side view mirror may be missing on the vehicle.

People with information on the case were urged to contact North Las Vegas police at 702-633-9111 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
