SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

A woman was in critical condition after jumping from the third floor inside Scottsdale Fashion Square on Thursday night, police said.

The 41-year-old woman's family told police she is mentally ill and jumped from above the food court area, Scottsdale police Sgt. Mark Clark said.

A witness also reported that the woman jumped, Clark said.

She landed on rental strollers on the ground floor of the shopping mall and was impaled by a pole on one of them, police said.

She was taken to Scottsdale Healthcare-Osborn Medical Center in critical condition, underwent surgery is expected to survive.

It was the second fall at Scottsdale Fashion Square this summer.

In early June a 65-year-old woman fell two stories to her death. No one else was hurt and police said based on the woman's history and witness statements, they believe the fall was intentional.
