LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

An airline worker based at McCarran International Airport used his security clearance to help pass off cocaine to passengers as part of a drug smuggling operation, a federal indictment stated.

An indictment released Wednesday named three people, Daren Cole, Dewane Blue and Bryan Bledsoe, as co-conspirators of a drug smuggling operation that prosecutors alleged occurred between Las Vegas and Alaska.

In the indictment filed in U.S. District Court in Alaska, prosecutors state Bledsoe used his security clearance as an airline worker at McCarran Airport to bypass screening of cocaine shipments and pass off the drugs to passengers in secure areas of the aviation hub.

Prosecutors state Blue would pass off the drugs to Bledsoe, who would then give back the drugs after Blue's screening with security officers.

The aviation director of Clark County, Rosemary Vassiliadis, said security officers with McCarran Airport assisted U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents in an investigation of an attempted smuggling of about 10 kilograms of cocaine that was bound for Alaska.

According to Vassiliadis, airport management was informed of a possible drug transfer in late May, which led to an arrest in early June.

The indictment stated June 1 as the date of the transfer stemming from the arrest of the three suspects.

In addition, prosecutors list a dozen cash shipments sent by Cole from Alaska to Las Vegas as part of the smuggling operation. A couple of the shipments totaled in the six-figure money amounts, the indictment states.

Vassiliadis said an arrest occurred in early June while investigators were led to U.S. Airways worker Bledsoe, who was not immediately detained in order for more evidence to be gathered.

After monitoring Bledsoe since June, agents arrested the Las Vegas resident on Tuesday night.

Vassiliadis said a third person was also arrested earlier on Wednesday.

The three were indicted on federal counts of drug conspiracy and attempted possession with intent to distribute.
