A man and a woman sought in the fatal stabbing of a 25-year-old in an east Las Vegas neighborhood were arrested Monday.

In Las Vegas Metro police documents, a warrant was issued for Jerry Holman, 22, and Mariah Whitemagpie, 23, in connection to a stabbing that took place Aug. 17 in the 2500 block of East Karen Avenue. The Clark County Coroner's Office said Nigel Hewitt, 25, died as a result of a homicide from the stabbing.

Inmate records at Clark County Detention Center showed Holman and Whitemagpie were both arrested on Monday, each booked on open murder and conspiracy to commit murder charges. Police did not disclose details of their arrests.

Last week, Las Vegas Metro police released descriptions of three people connected to an altercation that involved Hewitt.

In documents, police, citing witnesses, said the three people, two of them identified as Holman and Whitemagpie, were questioning residents at the Lake Sahara apartment complex, asking the location of a woman they were seeking. Police stated the three were looking for the woman because they said she had stolen from them.

A couple of witnesses stated seeing Holman pull a knife on a person identified as Hewitt during a confrontation at the complex. Citing one witness, police said the woman in the confrontation, Whitemagpie, egged Holman on to fight Hewitt.

Witnesses told police Holman chased after Hewitt as he was backing away from them. Police said one of the witnesses recalled seeing Holman on top of Hewitt on the ground. The three people then fled the area while Hewitt remained on the ground.

Police did not indicate what prompted the altercation between the group and Hewitt. Police said Hewitt was rushed to Sunrise Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to Metro, the department's Criminal Apprehension Team located the two people on Monday and took them into custody. The third person who police originally were seeking was also located but no charges were filed against him.

Jail records showed Holman and Whitemagpie were slated for an initial court hearing on Wednesday.
