LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Three hikers were sent to Las Vegas-area hospitals on Friday after being rescued at Red Rock National Recreation Area.

Larry Hadfield with Las Vegas Metro police said a crew with the department's Search and Rescue Unit airlifted two hikers from the White Rock area of the Red Rock Recreation center about 9:30 a.m.

Police received a call just before 7:15 a.m. of the injuries to two hikers. A third hiker accompanying them was not injured.

One hiker was sent to University Medical Center with a moderate head injury. Another hiker was rushed to Southern Hills Hospital with a moderate arm injury.

At 12:12 p.m., a 21-year-old male hiker had to be airlifted from a crevasse in the Calico 1 area of Red Rock. He sustained multiple injuries and had to be hoisted from the crevasse with a rescue helicopter.

Metro police recommend hikers always notify someone of where they are going and when they plan to return. Also, it's recommended hikers never hike alone, bring plenty of water and wear proper clothing and footwear.
