SAN FRANCISCO (RNN) – Actor and comedian Robin Williams was cremated a day after his death, according to a Marin County, CA-issued death certificate.

The actor's “place of final disposition” is listed “in San Francisco Bay” where his ashes were reportedly scattered on Aug. 12. The death certificate also lists his death as “pending investigation.”

The owner of Monte's Chapel of the Hills funeral home told NBC News it did assist Williams's family and were hired “for private matters.” The funeral home is also listed on the death certificate obtained by NBC News.

According to California state law, authorized death records can only be legally given to relatives, spouses, domestic partners, legal representation, law enforcement or other government agencies and funeral directors. "Unauthorized" parties, such as the media, are given "informational" copies.

Williams, 63, was found dead in his Tiburon, CA home on Aug. 11. The official cause of his death is suicide by hanging in a Marin County Sheriff's Office news release. Williams's publicist, Mara Buxbaum, said he had been battling severe depression and in a statement from his wife, Susan Schneider, had been recently diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

Comedian and longtime friend Billy Crystal will lead an “in memoriam” to Williams at the 66th Primetime Emmys on Aug. 25.

A Change.org petition has also been started to rename the Waldo Tunnel, a passageway that connects the Golden Gate Bridge to Marin County, to Robin Williams Tunnel in his honor. So far, the petition has 12,545 signatures.
