TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

With Tuesday's deluge following rain overnight, local emergency crews are keeping busy.

The water level dropped significantly over a few hours, but when Tucson firefighters got to the scene of an east side swift water rescue, the rushing water was all the way up to the windows and that's when they had to act fast.

Just before 1 p.m., the woman inside the car called 911 for help after her car got stuck while trying to drive through the wash filled with rushing water, according to Tucson Fire officials.

Firefighters used a ladder to get to the woman inside the car, surroundedd by water several feet high.

This is the ninth swift water rescue Tucson firefighters were dispatched to since July 1.

First responders said many of the rescues happen at washes in neighborhoods streets that fill up with water quickly when it starts to rain. All it takes is a few feet of water to get your car swept away by rushing water.

In this emergency call, authorities said the woman didn't need any medical attention after getting rescued but said the experience is very scary.

“When you're stranded in that vehicle and the water level keeps creeping higher and higher and you're thinking that you might get washed away. You don't get any retakes at that, so it's extremely emotional and scary and we're hoping that she's okay, but we hope that nobody else has to go through that situation, by again just avoiding this type of thing,” TFD Capt. Barrett Baker said.

First responders stress the motto: “If in doubt, wait it out.”
