TX Gov. Rick Perry indicted for abuse of power

(CNN) – Texas Governor Rick Perry has been indicted by a grand jury.

The potential 2016 presidential candidate is accused of abusing his power, allegedly trying to force a district attorney to step down over her DUI arrest and threatening to veto funding for a public integrity unit run by the DA.

He faces two felony – abuse of official capacity and coercion of public servant.

If found guilty of the charges, Perry could be sentenced to a minimum 109 years in prison.

Officials from Perry's office say they plan to aggressively defend the governor.

The Texas Democratic Party called on Perry to immediately step down.
