LAS VEGAS (FOX5/AP) -

The case against a California youth pastor who was arrested after a Las Vegas man died six months after a fight with him last year was dropped Friday.

Robert Cox, 35, was originally charged with murder after 55-year-old Link Ellingson died about six months after the June 13, 2013, confrontation outside Four Kegs pub.

Cox said he was traveling with members of his church and had stopped for dinner when Ellingson approached the group and assaulted them. Group members said Cox grabbed the man and both fell. Ellingson hit his head.

In July, a judge dismissed the murder charge.

On Friday, Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said he would not seek an indictment against Cox in connection with the case. He said Cox could have been acting in self-defense when Ellingson fell.

Wolfson said prosecutors determined they would not be able to prove criminal wrongdoing beyond a reasonable doubt.

Cox has maintained that he felt threatened and he was only defending himself.
