LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The Rapid City, SD, squad proved to be no challenge for the Mountain Ridge Little League team as it opened Little League World Series play in Williamsport, PA, on Thursday.

Trailing 2-1 after two innings, Mountain Ridge's offense exploded, scoring 11 runs over the next three innings.

Outfielder Zach Hare tied the game 2-2 with a solo home run in the top of the third.

"It was an amazing feeling to watch him be successful and be a part of this awesome team," said Zach's mother, Michelle Hare, from her seat at a local Buffalo Wild Wings where a watch party for the team was being thrown.

The Hares won't be able to travel to Williamsport until Friday.

The score was 4-2 at the end of the third inning, 8-2 at the end of the fourth. The game ended with the mercy rule with Mountain Ridge leading 12-2 after five innings.

"The kids are starting to understand there are people out there supporting them," said team manager Ashton Cave.

The team will next face the Jackie Robinson West squad from Chicago, Sunday at 11 a.m. Las Vegas time.

When asked what it will take to win the World Series, pitcher Josh Zuehlsdorff said, "Hard work, playing as a team and picking each other up when we make a mistake."

This marks the first time a team from Nevada has been represented in the World Series, and the team got there with a win Saturday in the West Regional championships in San Bernardino.
