LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

With about two weeks left to hire about 650 teachers, Clark County School District unveiled how they will go about the process.

The school district said it's looking for bus drivers, food service workers and substitute teachers in addition to the permanent teaching roles before the school year begins on Aug. 25.

On Friday, district officials held an informational event with media members at Forbuss Elementary School to go over the hiring process. They were expected to also give details on where qualified candidates can apply.

On Monday, FOX5 reported on preparations made by the school district in undertaking the large number of vacancies.

Meg Nigro, CCSD's director of recruitment and development, said the district was working with current substitute teachers who hold Bachelor's degrees in an alternate route to licensure. All of it, they hope, would lead to remedying the shortage of permanent teaching jobs.

"They are learning to be a teacher, teaching during the day and then, once eligible for hire, we can hire them without any discontinuation with the kids," Nigro said.

Nigro also expressed the need for retention of staff members.

Tune in to FOX5 News at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. with details on the school district's efforts to get teachers in classrooms.
