LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Las Vegas Metro police said several residents of an apartment complex located on Stewart Avenue near Nellis Boulevard were evacuated Thursday night as SWAT officers negotiated with a man barricaded inside a home there.

Metro's Lt. John Liberty said officers were called to the Amber Ridge apartment complex about 8:25. Liberty said it was believed the man is suicidal, and was threatening to harm himself and others.

Police closed Stewart to traffic near the complex and also evacuated residents of a neighboring apartment complex.

The man was taken into custody and residents were allowed to return to their homes after 10:30 p.m.

Police at the scene said it was believed the man had his wife and child held hostage inside the apartment and that he was armed.
