LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Storms dumped heavy rain on the Las Vegas Valley on Monday afternoon leading to flooded roadways and dozens of crashes.

By 3 p.m. the National Weather Service had issued flash flood warnings for much of central and southwest Las Vegas.

Officials reported water-covered roadways at Rainbow Boulevard and Hacienda Avenue and Desert Inn Road and Valley View Drive. One viewer called FOX5 and said Fremont Street looked more like a river in downtown Las Vegas.

FOX5's real-time traffic maps showed several crashes across the Las Vegas Valley, which slowed traffic on major thoroughfares.

A flash flood watch was in effect for western Clark County and all of Nye and Lincoln counties until 9 p.m.

About 4:45 p.m., the Nevada Department of Transportation reported U.S. 95 was closed in both directions at Mount Charleston due to a mudslide and rising water. According to Officer Laura Meltzer with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, several vehicles became stuck in the area and a bus with several passengers in it took on water.

Meltzer also said Kyle Canyon Road (SR 157) was shut down near mile marker 96 due to flooding. Meltzer said a few vehicles were washed off the roadway.

FOX5 Chief Meteorologist Ted Pretty the best chances for rain will end by Monday night, with sunshine returning in abundance by mid-week. He said temperatures will remain below the average high of 105 degrees for much of the week.
