VICTORVILLE, CA (FOX5/AP) -

Ousted Las Vegas lawmaker Steven Brooks was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison but received time served for a high-speed chase with law enforcement in California.

Brooks received the sentence in a San Bernardino, CA court room about a year and a half after the incident on Interstate 15.

Brooks pleaded no contest earlier this year to evading a peace officer and resisting arrest in the March 28, 2013 pursuit. Prosecutors agreed to drop charges alleging he threw an object out of his SUV and attacked a police dog.

Since Brooks was being held in a San Bernardino jail since his arrest, he received credit for 970 days served and good behavior behind bars. Brooks, though, remained held in California to await extradition to Nevada. Brooks is accused of making threats to Nevada Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick as well as resisting arrest of a North Las Vegas police officer.

The freeway confrontation came hours after he was ousted from the Nevada legislature by colleagues who cited a pattern of bizarre behavior, and said they didn't feel safe around him.
