VOLUSIA COUNTY, FL (WESH/CNN) – A Florida father and son have quite a fish tale to tell after a recent fishing trip.

A fish fight left 13-year-old Parker King with a fresh battle wound. After a surgery, 27 staples and 17 stitches, his arm is on the mend.

The teen was fishing with his dad on Sunday afternoon when they spotted a 5-foot long barracuda he thinks was at least 70 pounds.

“I was like, ‘dad, let’s try to catch it,’” Taylor said.

“You see those things swimming around and any fisherman - they see it they want to try to catch it just for the fight,” his father Irwin King said.

They set the hook and prepared for the fight, but the huge barracuda wasn't about to be reeled into their trap.

“[As] Soon as he set the hook, it went around the boat and flew up. All I heard was, 'Watch out,' and I put my hands over my head, and that's when he got me right under there,” Taylor said.

The barracuda ripped one of the muscles in his arm and cut open a vain, and blood was everywhere.

“I looked at my dad with big old eyes and said, 'Dad, I am going to die,'” Taylor recalled.

“I was like, ‘no, you’re not, you’re not going to die – just be calm,’” Irwin King said.

King grabbed a towel and wrapped it around Parker’s arm. He then tried to call for help but he had no cell service. He pulled up anchor and sped to shore for help – a nearly 40-minute ride.

“was just praying that I wouldn't bleed out or anything,” Taylor said.

Parker says the incident did not diminish his love for fishing, but now he knows his limits.

“If there is a body of water, I will fish in it. I just won’t fish for barracuda,” Taylor said.
