LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A Las Vegas man confessed to killing his roommate before fleeing to California, police said Thursday.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, Martin Skropeta, 54, was arrested in connection with the slaying of a woman whose body was found at the residence they shared in the 500 block of Elm Drive.

Police said law enforcement in Los Angeles requested Las Vegas officers early Wednesday to perform a welfare check on the home. Police in LA stated getting a 911 call from a man who said he killed his roommate, identified in Skropeta's arrest report as Kelli Keesee, a few days earlier.

Officers found a woman's body during the check.

Police said homicide detectives then went to Los Angeles to interview Skropeta. The interview resulted in his arrest.

Skropeta told detectives that he and Keesee had argued prior to her death over rent he failed to pay. He said Keesee asked him to move out.

Skropeta said the argument resulted in a physical confrontation that ended in Keesee's death.

Metro noted their investigation on Wednesday revealed a welfare check had been requested by Keesee's family on Tuesday.

As of Thursday, Skropeta was awaiting extradition to Las Vegas.

As of this case, Metro has investigated 68 homicides this year.

Police were still seeking information on the slaying. They urged people to contact Metro's Homicide Section at 702-828-3521 or email at homicide@lvmpd.com. People may also submit tips to Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
