NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -

The North Las Vegas Police Department on Wednesday announced an arrest has been made in a deadly shooting that occurred on July 3.

Miquan Burton, 18, was taken into custody about 10 a.m. Tuesday at an apartment on East Centennial Parkway, near Mt. Hood Street.

Police said about 11:05 on July 3, 18-year-old Tyrell Melton was standing with a group of friends at Via Maria Court and Rancho Del Norte Drive when someone fired shots at the group from a vehicle, killing Melton and injuring a 14-year-old girl.

Police believe Burton was the shooter.

The department said a motive for the shooting remains under investigation but it may have been gang-related.

Burton was booked into Las Vegas City Jail and faces felony charges of murder with a deadly weapon, attempted murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied structure and discharging a firearm from a vehicle.

North Las Vegas police urged anyone with additional information to call them at 702-633-9111. Those wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
