LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Northbound Interstate 15 was completely shut down between Sahara and Charleston avenues on Wednesday afternoon following a wreck that involved nine vehicles and claimed one life.

The accident happened before 4:30 p.m. Traffic was backed up to Tropicana Avenue on the interstate, but some vehicles were getting through on the shoulder.

Three people were taken to hospital for treatment, one of whom was listed in critical condition. Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Jeremie Elliott said when rescue crews righted a white car that had flipped over, they discovered the body of a victim inside.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. The identity of the decedent will be released by the office of the Clark County Coroner in the coming days.
