A driver whose vehicle broke down on Interstate 15 outside of the Las Vegas Valley was struck and killed while trying to cross lanes of the highway, according to Nevada Highway Patrol.

Trooper Jeremie Elliot with NHP said a call of the incident came in about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday on northbound I-15 north of U.S. 93 near Moapa.

According to Elliot, the 45-year-old victim was walking from the southbound lanes onto the northbound when he was struck by a red Nissan vehicle. The victim's vehicle was disabled in the southbound lanes, Elliot said.

As of late Wednesday morning, NHP was still investigating the incident. Elliot said the incident happened in a large construction zone near Moapa, where the speed limit is posted at 55 miles per hour.
