HAPPY VALLEY, OR (KPTV) -

A tragic death was averted Tuesday night in Happy Valley, thanks to a quick-thinking bystander.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office says a 6-year-old girl was rescued from the bottom of a pool at the Greenleaf Monterey Apartments on SE Causey Avenue.

It happened just after 6 p.m. Good Samaritan Teala Galvez says a little boy ran up to her, and the girl's aunt was screaming she was at the bottom of the pool.

The girl was motionless when removed from the water by Teala Galvez. She performed CPR, and it took about 15 seconds for the girl to start vomiting water and regain consciousness.

Galvez said, "I just started praying. It didn't look good. She was really blue."

Galvez is downplaying her hero status and says she just did what anyone would do. The girl is reported in good condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
