Mug shot of Thomas Tobey, 32, of 90 River St., Greenfield. (Greenfield PD)
GREENFIELD, MA (WSHM) -
A Greenfield man was arrested on his second OUI charge Saturday night after he drove over a boulder that disabled his pickup truck near the Quality Inn on Route 2A.
Police were dispatched to the hotel at about 10:30 p.m. to a report of a woman screaming for help, Greenfield police said.
Thomas Tobey, 32, of 90 River St., Greenfield, attempted to leave the Quality Inn by driving through a grassy area towards the Planet gas station. That's when Tobey drove over multiple boulders separating the two properties, one of which became stuck under his truck, police said.
Tobey then drove back into the hotel parking lot and endangered the lives of several people that were gathered nearby. Tobey turned east on Mohawk Trail, but his vehicle was permanently disabled by the boulder, police said.
The investigating officer determined that Tobey was driving under the influence of alcohol and placed him under arrest. He was charged with operating under the influence (second offence), operating a motor vehicle to endanger and leaving the scene of an accident, according to an arrest report.
Tobey was released on $200 bail.
