LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Las Vegas Metro police said a woman was intentionally struck by a vehicle while she was trying to seek help for her dying child.
The police department released new information on Monday into an incident that took place in the area of East University Avenue and South Pecos Road just after 7 p.m. Friday.
According to police, officers were called to the area on reports of a woman who was struck by a vehicle. The woman told police there was a 3-month-old child who died inside a nearby home, police said.
The woman and the child were transported to Sunrise Hospital, where the infant was pronounced dead.
Citing witnesses and evidence, police said the woman appeared to have been seeking help for her dying child. The woman went outside to get a better cell phone signal when she was struck by a dark-colored sedan.
Police said they believe the woman was targeted by the car, which fled the scene. On Monday, officers were still seeking the suspect driver and vehicle.
Metro homicide and abuse and neglect detectives were called to the scene. Police, though, said the child's death was not believed to be suspicious and the result of an accidental sleeping death.
The Clark County Coroner's Office identified the child over the weekend as Rhylee Brown.
Police urged anyone with information on the incident to call Metro at 702-828-3521 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
