Robert A. Arciero, MD will be installed as the 43nd president of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) on Saturday, July 12th, 2014, during the Societys Annual Meeting in Seattle, WA.

Dr. Arciero is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. He has dedicated his 27 year career to enhancing and improving the treatment of soft tissue and joint injuries involving the shoulder and knee. His area of expertise includes reconstruction and repair of labral and instability problems in the shoulder and multiple ligament reconstruction in the knee.

Dr. Arciero has spent the last 14 years at the University of Connecticut (UConn), as Professor of Orthopaedics, Director of the Orthopaedic Sports Fellowship Program and Team Physician to the UConn Huskies. He is also a physician consultant to the USA National Hockey Program.

Prior to his arrival at UConn, Dr. Arciero spent 13 years at Keller Army Hospital at West Point, NY, as the Chief of Orthopaedics and Director of the U.S. Armys Bone & Soft Tissue Trauma Fellowship. In his rank of Colonel, he served in the Persian Gulf War for one tour of duty that involved two operations, Desert Storm and Desert Shield, for which he received a Bronze Star.

Dr. Arcieros awards are numerous and include AOSSMs O'Donoghue Award (2002), Hughston Award (2004) and Rovere Award for outstanding educator (2011). He has also been awarded the the Richard B. Caspari Award (2005) and the Trillat Award (2009). Dr. Arciero has more than 100 peer-reviewed publications concerning the shoulder and knee.

Dr. Arciero and his wife, Cathy, have five children and in December 2011, welcomed their first grandchild. In his free time Dr. Arciero enjoys golf, riding his motorcycle and coaching his youngest sons baseball team.

The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) is a world leader in sports medicine education, research, communication and fellowship, and includes national and international orthopaedic sports medicine leaders.
