TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Toledo Police say a man shot at a Toledo car lot on Tuesday morning has died. TPD released a photo of a man they believe is responsible for the shooting, and is asking for the public's help finding him.

Police say Ricky Arnaz Layson was shot at R and D Auto Sales on Lewis Avenue around 11:25 a.m. Tuesday. Layson, co-owner of R and D Auto Sales, was transported to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to police.

The police report states Layson told police before being taken to the hospital that he did not know the shooter.

Police say it appears Layson was shot more than once. They are investigating the possibility of a robbery, as well.

A memorial has been set up outside R and D Auto Sales for Layson. People who knew him say they don't know why anyone would want to hurt him.

"He's the last person that you would think someone would want to hurt," said Melanie Swartz, a friend of the family. "He's always been a really giving person. He'd give you the shirt off his back. I remember I didn't even have $5 for a pack of cigarettes and he would buy me them."

Swartz says her family knew Layson for awhile, and she even bought a car from him. She says he will be remembered as a kind and giving man.

"It's going to be hard not seeing him anymore, but I'm just sad for his family," she said.

Layson was a father and friend of many. Swartz and many others say they won't rest until the man who shot him is behind bars.

"It's really cold-blooded because he was such a nice guy," Swartz said. "If this guy is running around killing someone like Rick, he'll kill anybody."

Anyone with information that could help police should call Crime Stopper at 419-255-1111.
