Kalama, Washington (PRWEB) July 07, 2014
Governor Jay Inslee has announced the winners of the 2014 Smart Communities Awards. Now in its ninth year, the program recognizes achievements by local leaders who promote smart growth planning and projects that contribute to quality of life in Washington state.
City of Kalamaalong with strategic partner Port of Kalamais being recognized for their collaboration on the recently approved annexation of 260 acres of Port property for both business and recreational purposes. The annexation will make way for the Spencer Creek Business Park and a new recreational facility, Haydu Park, including the Kalama Fairgrounds. The multi-use business property is expected to boost the areas economy and job opportunities while strengthening the citys revenue base.
The Port and City worked together to craft new City Code that will enable flexible development, while providing predictable quality of infrastructure, landscaping and buildings. The Spencer Creek Business Park will encompass about 70 acres (3 million square feet) and over 500,000 square feet of space when built-out.
These projects help create and sustain a thriving economic climate and strengthen our ability to lead in the global economy, said Gov. Inslee. Washington is a great state in which to live and do business thanks to these examples of leadership and innovation in community planning and development.
