LAKE PALESTINE, TX (KLTV) -
A plane crashed into Lake Palestine on Friday afternoon, and authorities have released the identities of those aboard.
According to Texas DPS, Gary Buster, 56, of Frankston, and Aaron Buster, 25, were the two aboard the plane when it went down in Lake Palestine. The FAA told KLTV that the plane was a Cessna 310. However, an official with the airport in Mineola has given us information that shows Buster owns a different type of plane. We have asked the FAA to double check their information and are awaiting their response.
When boaters saw the crash, they rushed to the scene and rescued the two men, game wardens say.
"They saw the plane go down and they were able to get to the two people that were occupants of the plane and provide them a rescue and get them to the shore," said Captain Quint Balkom, Game Warden.
Both were transported to an area hospital; officials there say Aaron is in good condition, while Gary is in fair condition.
The plane, witnesses tell us, is now completely submerged.
"We are in the water now attempting to find the plane using side scanan sonar," Balkom said.
A small landing strip is in that area, but it is unclear whether the plane was taking off or landing.
