AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

Family members of a man shot dead at the Spring Hill High-Rise Apartments early Thursday afternoon are overcome with grief. Detectives were questioning the victim's loved ones, trying to find out what happened on the 13th floor.

"There was some kind of fight inside one of the apartments on the top floor, " said Lt. David Whiddon, with the Akron Police Department.

The fight tuned fatal, three men were shot, one was killed and the other two were rushed to the hospital. One of the victims injured, a 27-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. His condition is unknown.

Young children were outside playing when the shooting happened, around 1:30 p.m.

"When the weather heats up activity heats up and unfortunately it's a lot of bad activity with fights going on just like we had today with the fights and unfortunately it turns violent sometimes, and it ends in the most extreme with gunfire and death," said Lt. Whiddon.

Resident Chris Ford is fed up with the people who have no regard for life.

"It needs to stop. I'm sick of hearing about it. People need to get their act together. It needs to change something has to change," said Ford.

Residents hope for change before someone else ends up dead or injured.

Detectives know the summer is just getting started as they work to solve this case, and hope there won't be others like it.

"I hope this isn't a sign of things to come, but, there's been a lot of activity over the last couple of weeks," Whiddon said.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office will positively identify the deceased victim and release his name once family has been properly notified.

This incident remains under investigation. No arrests were made in connection with the shooting.

Anyone with information should contact the Akron Police Detective Bureau at 330-375-2470.
