LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Revelers under the Fremont Street Experience canopy will have to put their alcohol in things other than glass or metal containers.

The Las Vegas City Council approved a ban Wednesday that would not allow alcoholic containers like beer cans and glass bottles to be carried around the tourist hotbed.

The ban is the city's latest move to draw visitors back to the downtown area.

Earlier this month, city leaders announced an approach to quell street performer and panhandlers from aggressively seeking tips.

The city said it was considering a tiered approach to inform performers of interactions with visitors.

In addition, Las Vegas Metro Police Sheriff Doug Gillespie is considering additional patrol officers at Fremont Street Experience.
