LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A man was rushed to the hospital early Thursday after a homeowner opened fire on two men through the door of his residence, police said.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, the incident happened in the 9000 block of Wittig Avenue, near the area of Tenaya Way and Elkhorn Road, just before 2 a.m.

A watch commander with Metro said two men had visited a woman in the neighborhood before they decided to leave. According to police, the men were not familiar with the area and attempted to go back inside the home they visited.

When no one answered, the men knocked on another home in the area, police said. The watch commander said the home's owner presumed a robbery was happening and told them he was not letting them in.

The homeowner then opened fire through the door, according to police.

One of the men was wounded in the chest and was rushed to University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police noted the men were drinking before the incident but not excessively.

Police don't expect charges to be filed against the two men or the homeowner.
