MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC) - It now takes roughly $2 million a day to run St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. For years, celebrities from around the world have used their voice to spread the good news of St. Jude.

Tuesday night, some country music starts hit the stage at the Cannon Center just for the kids and their families. For St. Jude patients and their families, it was a night they won't soon forget, with country music star John Rich and friends.

"Nobody brought an extra player. Nobody brought any burlap. These artists are coming out, just them and a guitar and playing it just like they wrote it," said Rich.

In his third annual concert, Rich welcomed Clint Black, Deana Carter, Randy Houser, and others. The idea for this musical fundraiser came after Rich's win on NBC's "Celebrity Apprentice."

"I don't think there's a better way to spend your time or your money than St. Jude, when you realize its not only a children's hospital but also a research hospital," continued Rich.

Rich first visited St. Jude when he was singing with the group Lonestar. He says after walking room to room, he went straight to work raising money for the hospital.

"The cool thing about the performers ... They're not here to get their name out there. They're here solely for the kids and to help raise money for the kids. They're so selfless and I really appreciate it," says St. Jude patient McKendree.

McKendree was diagnosed with cancer in high school and is now in remission. As a gift, she got to sing with John Rich on the song "For the Kids."

"I don't know of another place that's a more central nerve point for kids and kids health than St. Jude," continues Rich.

McKendree hopes Rich keeps his visits to the Bluff City on schedule with St. Jude's life changing work.
