RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

GWAR lead singer Dave Brockie died of an accidental heroin overdose, the Medical Examiner's Office has concluded.

The ruling confirms the suspicions of investigators looking into Brockie's death in March. Brockie was just 50-years-old when he was found dead in Richmond at his home on West Seminary Avenue.

Outlandish costumes and theatrics attracted many to become fans of the Richmond-based band. GWAR rocked out for almost three decades.  On stage, Brockie went by the name Oderus Urungus.

The band's success includes two Grammy nominations, multiple TV appearances and a worldwide following.

Fans of GWAR will have a chance to pay tribute to Brockie in Henrico this summer. A public memorial to honor Brockie will be held at Hadad's Lake on August 15.

The memorial will be held the day before the band's GWAR-B-Q at the lake.

In 2011, GWAR's lead guitarist, Cory Smoot, was found dead on a tour bus.
