TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -

A Tempe family has been given devastating news.

Derithe Harper said doctors told him and his fiancé, their daughter only has a few months to live.

"It's still hard," he said. "I can't believe - I wake up every morning and just can't believe this is happening to my little girl."

Harper said he took his 3-year-old daughter Azalea to Cardon Children's Medical Center nearly two weeks ago after she lost movement in her arm and ankle.

He said doctors told them Azalea has a brainstem glioma – an inoperable, cancerous tumor on her brainstem the size of a golf ball.

She is undergoing radiation, but doctors believe Azalea only has between two to four months to live.

"I'm not going to give up," said Harper. "I am not going to wait for six weeks and then get ready to bury my daughter. I'm going to try to find something else we can do to keep her living."

Harper said he is going to seek other medical opinions on Azalea's condition.

Meantime, friends are raising money to help ease the family's financial burden.

They want them to be able to focus on Azalea and their six other children during this crisis.
