LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The Las Vegas Centennial Commission approved Tuesday a $1 million grant for the restoration of the aging Huntridge Theater near downtown Las Vegas.

The decision was contingent on project organizers clearing up the title of the property of all liens.

The group behind the restoration of the facility mobilized supporters at the meeting to show support for the theater in the community.

In the last year, Huntridge Revival LLC, the consortium taking charge in resurrecting the currently dormant structure, have organized crowdfunding efforts as well as community restoration events to revive the theater.

In June and July 2013, donations were collected in an effort to acquire the theater that opened in 1944. The aging building closed in July 2004.

Huntridge Revival LLC collected a total of $207,355 in the six-week fundraising period, exceeding its goal of $150,000.

The theater also garnered an additional $500,000 in donated professional services and preconstruction efforts.

The group expressed the total amount projected for the entire revival project will between $12 million and $15 million.
