TUSAYAN, AZ (CBS5) -

The U.S. Forest Service began maintenance work on roads in the Tusayan Ranger District in the Kaibab National Forest on Friday that is expected to last through June.

Crews began making improvements to Forest Road 688 from State Highway 64 to its intersection with Forest Road 305A, the Forest Service said.

The road work will include reconditioning of the popular routes.

Also scheduled for reconditioning blade work is Forest Road 320 between roads 305 and 311, the Forest Service said.

After the reconditioning work, crews will haul material for spreading onto the roads from Dillman Pit on Forest Road 318. Heavy truck traffic is expected during material hauling, the Forest Service said.

Visitors to the Tusayan Ranger District should expect to encounter large trucks and other heavy equipment while traveling on these routes, the Forest Service said.
