LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Police said a fatal shooting inside a suite at the Palms Casino Resort on Thursday night came in the midst of a fight involving the victim and three other men.

Authorities released details and the identity of the victim on Friday in the shooting that took place inside the suite at the hotel property west of the Las Vegas Strip.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, officers were called to the hotel at 9:18 p.m. where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The man, whom the Clark County Coroner's Office later identified as Evan Plunkett, 25, of Henderson, was rushed to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators said the victim appeared to have been shot during a verbal and physical dispute with three other men. Police said the people involved in the shooting fled the suite before police arrived.

Plunkett formerly served in the Marine Corps as a jet engine mechanic, was a father to a young daughter and was also an aspiring rapper who went by the name "Hollywood Will".

A family friend was told by the Plunkett family that Evan was trying to stop the fight when he became the victim.

"There was an altercation. He was trying to get everybody to stop fighting. Apparently he took a shot to the chest," said Barbara Combs.

As of Friday, police said they have not arrested anyone in the case.

Police on early Friday said the shooting occurred during a party inside a suite formerly named after Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner.

Police did not immediately release information on the party, but a hip-hop producer named "Juss Swoop" posted several videos from inside the suite Thursday night.

On his Twitter feed, the producer said a music video was being filmed inside the suite.

Metro has not confirmed whether the people involved in the video were also involved in the shooting.

"Everybody loved Evan. He was such a good-hearted person and he was always the person to try and get everybody to do the right thing," said Combs.

Combs also said Plunkett's brother was at the Palms during the incident and suffered multiple broken bones after trying to pull Plunkett out of the fight.

A friend of Plunkett told FOX5 the victim graduated from Basic High School in 2007 and later from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Plunkett's death represented the 47th homicide in Metro's jurisdiction this year, police said.

Police urged anyone with information on the cast to contact Metro's Homicide Section at 702-828-3521 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
