Roads closed Friday for fallen officer's procession

MESA, AZ (CBS5) -

Motorists on some Mesa roadways will encounter street closures Friday for the funeral service and procession for a fallen Mesa police officer.

Officer Brandon Mendoza, 32, was hit and killed on a southeast Valley freeway on Monday morning by 42-year-old Raul Silva Corona of Phoenix. Mendoza was on his way home from his shift when the two vehicles collided head-on.

A Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church located at 1534 N. Recker Road in Mesa.

Immediately following the service, a procession is planned to the Queen of Heaven Cemetery at 1500 E. Baseline Road in Mesa.

Here is a timetable of road closures:

 6 a.m. - 12 p.m.

  • Mclellan - Recker to 59th Street
  • Westbound traffic will detour NB - SB onto Recker
  • Eastbound traffic will detour NB onto 59th Street

 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

  • Southbound Recker at Mclellan
  • Southbound traffic will detour EB onto Mclellan

 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

  • Westbound Baseline to Stapley
  • Westbound traffic will detour NB - SB onto Gilbert Road

10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

  • Harris - Baseline to Juanita
