LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Police said two parents who had their two small children taken away from them barricaded themselves from officers on Tuesday.

According to Metro's Lt. Mark Reddon, a family became barricaded inside a home located on Alexander Road near Lamb Boulevard about 8 p.m.

Reddon said a couple's children were taken away from them by Child Protective Services and sent to live with their grandparents. Metro said the home the children were found in had no food, power or water.

On Tuesday, that couple came to the grandparents' home to retrieve their children. The children's grandfather attempted to get the kids back but had the door slammed on him, cutting off his finger, according to police.

That prompted about three hours of negotiations with police. The parents later surrendered, police said.

The children were not hurt and were placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.

The parents were arrested for domestic violence and child endangerment.
