HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -

The Southern Nevada Health District on Thursday said it is aware of a norovirus outbreak investigation at the Merrill Gardens at Green Valley Ranch retirement facility.

Merrill Gardens, located at 1935 Paseo Verde Parkway in Henderson, offers independent and assisted living facilities, according to its website.

The health district said the outbreak is being investigated by the Nevada Department of Public and Behavioral Health.

The health district last week noted that a stomach bug going around the Las Vegas Valley was identified as norovirus.

The health district said that people with norovirus need to stay home from work or school until at least three days after their symptoms have ended.

Also, people who are sick or recovering from a gastrointestinal infection should not prepare food or care for others until they have recovered.

The health district stressed that norovirus is common and spreads easily from person to person. Symptoms typically appear within a day or two from exposure.
