Police said a man is accused of fatally stabbing another person who he confronted after the victim was seen leaving with his ex-girlfriend.

A report released on Thursday gave details leading to the arrest of 24-year-old Cody James Bradbury on April 16.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, witnesses saw a man identified as Bradbury engaged in a scuffle with 52-year-old Bruce Reid at a shopping center in the 3100 block of N. Rancho Boulevard just before 3:30 p.m.

Witnesses told police one of the men produced a sharp-edged object and stabbed the other person in the chest.

On Wednesday, a police spokesperson originally said a screwdriver appeared to have been used in the incident. Police in the arrest report, though, did not conclusively identify the weapon.

Documents showed the man with the weapon fled southbound on Rancho toward a desert area.

Police were called to the shopping complex where Reid was found bleeding. The report said Reid was rushed to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

In the report, police learned Reid had called out for a woman named Melody inside a thrift store at the shopping complex after he had been wounded. After interviewing witnesses and the woman, police later found a man matching Bradbury's description on board a CAT bus near the scene and took him into custody.

In documents, Bradbury told detectives he had gotten into an argument with his ex-girlfriend, who was identified as Melody Powell, at an apartment down the block from the shopping center. He told police Powell left with Reid during the argument.

Bradbury said he would see Reid's motorcycle a short time later parked at the shopping center. In the report, Bradbury told police he kicked over Reid's bike prompting the fight.

Bradbury then claimed grabbing a knife from Reid's pocket and stabbing the victim in the stomach, according to the report.

Bradbury was booked into Clark County Detention Center on a count of murder with a deadly weapon.

Reid's death represented the 31st homicide under investigation by Metro this year.
