LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A man armed with a rifle was shot and killed by an officer who responded to reports of a suicidal person, Las Vegas Metro police said on Tuesday.

According to police, a person called dispatchers about 3:30 a.m., reporting that a roommate in a home near Twain Avenue and Lindell Road was threatening to kill himself.

Police said the man armed with a rifle then barricaded himself from responding SWAT officers.

Police said, after several hours of negotiating, the man exited the home with the firearm and was then shot by an officer.

The wounded man later died. There were no injuries to any officers.

Police did not immediately disclose what exactly led up to the officer opening fire.
