LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

UNLV Athletics Director Tina Kunzer-Murphy said the situation regarding men's basketball head coach Dave Rice would be resolved quickly, and it was.

Rice will stay on at UNLV rather than pursue an offer to move to South Florida, reportedly for double his salary. Rice will get a contract extension at UNLV.

The school announced on Saturday they will recommend a two-year extension to university regents. When approved, Rice will be secured through the 2019 season.

As far as salary, UNLV would only say it's giving Rice an incentive package that would provide additional compensation opportunities based on athletic and academic success.

When FOX5 contacted Rice by phone, he wouldn't offer any details concerning his job offer at South Florida, but did say he's happy to remain a Rebel.

"We are thrilled that Coach Rice will lead our men's basketball program into the future. We have had a great deal of success in his first three years and are looking forward to even greater success in the future. No one is more dedicated, more passionate and works harder toward the goal of making the Runnin' Rebels into an elite program than Dave. It is a process and takes time, but we are 100 percent committed to success. Dave cares deeply about our student-athletes, the university, our alums and the Las Vegas community, and we are proud to have him as our head coach," Kunzer-Murphy said in a statement.
