LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Following numerous media reports Friday, UNLV men's basketball head coach Dave Rice arrived in Vegas and confirmed he has been offered the position of head coach at South Florida.

FOX5's Jon Castagnino spoke briefly with Rice Friday on the UNLV's campus. Rice said he was meeting with Athletics Director Tina Kunzer-Murphy about the situation.

Rice additionally said he had been approached by South Florida team officials during his last recruiting trip.

Reports put the offer from South Florida in the range of between $1.2 million and $1.4 million per year. Rice's current contract with UNLV is for $700,000 per year. That contract is set to expire in 2017.

Kunzer-Murphy told FOX5 that she is working with Don Snyder, interim president of UNLV, and university regents on a counterproposal for Rice, but that the ball is in Rice's court. She said she expects a decision from him as early as Sunday.

Kunzer-Murphy further said she is already fielding calls from people interested in replacing Rice at UNLV.

Rice declined to speak on camera with FOX5 but did tell Castagnino that although the offer from Southern Florida is lucrative, his decision is not about money and that he needs to discuss it further with his family.

The UNLV Runnin' Rebels missed the NCAA Tournament this year.
