LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
According to the Facebook page for former Las Vegas Strip performers Siegfried and Roy, the tiger that attacked Roy Horn during a performance in 2003 has died.
Horn wrote that Mantecore, a 17-year-old white tiger, died early on the afternoon of March 19.
Horn was mauled by the tiger on Oct. 3, 2003 during a performance at the Mirage. The show closed following the attack and Roy was left with injuries including partial paralysis.
"I am sorry I had to deliver this sad news - now we need time to heal. I feel like a part of me is gone," Horn wrote on Facebook.
Though it is generally accepted that Mantecore attacked Horn, the performers never saw it that way.
"My lifesaver, Mantecore, who was the one responsible for pulling me to safety where the paramedics could help me after my blood pressure made me dizzy on stage - he is greatly missed. However, I have my memories and I know that now he is playing with his brother and sister," Horn wrote.
