LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Dreams went up in flames on Friday night in downtown Las Vegas, but that was the point.

The Life Cube, an ever-changing, collaborative piece of art, was set ablaze in front of thousands of people.

The burning of the three-story, 24-foot building was the culmination of a weeks-long project that allowed the public to write down their dreams, hopes and aspirations on pieces of paper.

It is the belief of the people behind the project that those dreams have a better chance of coming true with the burn.

Cube construction manager Ziggy Ziegler said those dreams will go up into the universe rather than burn down into the ground.

Along with people placing the written dreams onto the structure, local artists have worked on bringing color to the cube.

Throughout the evening, people gathered and partied in anticipation of the event. Drummers drummed, chanters chanted, and the cube burned exactly how organizers had hoped.

The entire project was dreamed up by artist Scott Cohen. He approached city officials more than a year ago.

"This whole project is based on the belief that I have that if you write down your wishes and dreams, the probability of that happening increases substantially," Cohen said.
