LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The 27-year-old Las Vegas man wanted in a shooting death tied to a multiple-car crash on Interstate 215 has died.

The Clark County Coroner's Office and Las Vegas Metro police confirmed Thursday the death of Joseph Lucero, whom police identified as the suspect in a deadly shooting on March 13. Medical examiners did not immediately disclose Lucero's cause and manner of death.

Police said officers found Lucero's body in the 1900 block of E. Tropicana Avenue about 6:15 a.m. Wednesday.

According to police, detectives connected Lucero to a shooting victim who crashed his Jeep into three other cars on a ramp at the intersection of Interstate 215 and Eastern Avenue.

Police believe the victim, Zachary Girdner, 23, of Henderson, was shot at an apartment complex in the 7200 block of Las Vegas Boulevard South before the crash.

Investigators said after hearing about the shooting victim at the crash scene, they went back to the apartment complex and discovered a crime scene at Lucero's apartment. They said it appeared Girdner went to Lucero's apartment, where the pair argued, which escalated to a shooting. They said that when Girdner was shot, fleeing the scene and later being involved in the crash.

Police said the homicide case is officially closed in light of Lucero's death.
