A young homeless man said he was upset he couldn't join a Christmas Eve party at a Phoenix apartment complex so he set it on fire, destroying 16 apartments and causing more than $1.5 million in damages, according to police.
In an interview with police on Thursday, Zackory Joshua Myers, 20, said he used matches to set fire to paper and clothes in the bathroom on the second floor of the complex on Dec. 24, 2013, the police report states. Once the blaze grew, he took off.
Myers told police he was mad at a group of about 10 people who were partying in the adjacent apartment and didn't let him take part, according to the police report.
He was arrested Thursday on one felony count of arson.
No one was hurt in the fire.
