AHS looking for owner of dog rescued from Phoenix canal

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A dog is recovering at a Valley animal hospital after he was pulled from a canal in west Phoenix Friday morning.

A Good Samaritan saw the one-eyed Labrador mix in the canal and called for help, according to Arizona Humane Society (AHS) spokeswoman Bretta Nelson. Two AHS Emergency Animal Medical Technicians pulled him out of the canal at 43rd Avenue and Osborn.

He was weak, tired and shivering when he was taken to AHS' Second Chance Animal Hospital for treatment, Nelson said.

The 10-year-old dog is not microchipped and doesn't have a collar or identification. AHS is hoping the dog's owner will come forward during the "72-hour stray period," Nelson said. By law, the shelter is only required to hold a lost or stray animal for 72 hours, after that the dog will be up for adoption.
