LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A 48-year-old man was charged with attempted murder, accused of setting another person on fire before fleeing police just east of the Las Vegas Strip.

According to documents released Tuesday, Richard Anderson was arrested Sunday after officers responded to a call of a man lit on fire in the area of Koval Lane and Tropicana Avenue about 11:30 p.m.

In the documents, two passers-by told police they saw a man on fire and rushed over to the person to put the flames out. As they were helping and calling 911, Anderson, who was at the scene, fled on foot, according to the documents.

Officers were able to locate Anderson who continued to flee through a chain link and a dirt lot. Police were able to detain Anderson, police said.

According to documents, the victim told police Anderson set him on fire while he was sitting on a brick wall.

During an interview stated in an arrest report, Anderson said he gave the victim a cigar before turning around to retrieve a lighter. When Anderson came back to the victim, the suspect said Smith was on fire, documents showed.

The victim was treated at University Medical Center for burns to his back and face.

Anderson was booked into Clark County Detention Center.
